Kinky or Straight Hair?

Having made the decision to let my hair remain natural, in other words unpermed, has been a very eye opening experience in the way that others perceive me, i.e. how I look, who I am, what I stand for and beyond. This has sparked an on-going and very real dialogue among myself and my business partners about our own self-perceptions and meanings. In turn, I have been doing my own "Good Hair" survey with men and women of all races and even my clients with whom I provide therapy. Now we would like to hear from you! Do you prefer kinky or straight hair and why?

Remaining Faithful

How often have you found yourself thinking, "Why didnt they give me the job?" "Why didnt he ask me to marry him?" Why did they win the lottery?"

This way of thinking means that we give credit to man for things that all fall under God's power.

I, too, find myself constantly falling prey to giving man "too much" credit for the things that happen in our world and the decisions that we make. It seems to be at those moments of weakness when it is easiest to think like this. However, it is also at those moments that I must pause and remember that all things happen for the good of me, that life is not out to get me, and that the abundance of the universe is there for me to pick from. So, I pick my ego up off the ground and reframe my thinking. I raise my head and think what a glorious God (by whatever name you call Him) He must be to have put me on a path to fulfulling His purpose for me in this lifetime. I remember that although we have free will, He controls, sees and knows all things! And that everything that happens is for the betterment of me!
This is a lesson that I continue to learn and reflect back on whenever I am weak and weary and feeling as if nothing is going to work out!
Be Blessed,
MM

Stay Active While Snowed In

I am sure that I am not the only one that has been extremely irritated with all of the snow that we have been getting here in the DC Metro area. I think I have watched and re-watched every movie that there is on On Demand and quite frankly, tv is starting to get on my nerves. I have also had to fight off the urge to eat myself into oblivion during this time. CABIN FEVER is no JOKE! So here are the TOP 10 hints on how to avoid goin stir crazy while snowed in this winter:

1/ Give yourself a make over and use bold colors. Take pictures and post them on FaceBook. :)
2/ Since you cannot make it out to the gym do atleast one of those aerobics classes on FitTV- I know you have it so take advantage. Besides it will make u appreciate your commercial-free work out once you get back to your gym.
3/ Make your home a place you want to be snowed in. Take this time to re-decorate. Isn't it about time you framed and hung those pictures up that have been sitting in the shoe box for the last year?
4/ Treat yourself to a long hot bath with candles- I always say I am going to do that for myself and end up never doing it because I am so busy with life outside of my home that by the time I get home I just want to sleep.
5/ Experiment with new hairstyles. I never have the time to do this-EVER- so being snowed in is the perfect opportunity. (YouTube has some neat tutorials for natural hair styles-try them).
6/ Give yourself a mani/pedi- You know you have some Hammer Time you need to address on those toes.
7/ Journal. Jounal. Journal. I don't care what it's about but get those feelings out! I tend to make lists of goals I want to accomplish in a 6 month period of time. This is a good time to get very detailed about where you want to be either financially, physically, spiritually or emotionally over the next several months. Journaling is a good time for me to meditate and reflect on life.
8/ Plan a nice meal that requires you to broaden your cooking skills- I know you have the ingredients because I saw you in the store standing in those long lines prior to the snow coming.
9/ Get the Jump Start on learning that new language you always said you wanted to learn. There are lots of free language lesson on-line.
10/ READ- it will keep your mind fresh and it will also help you avoid looking ignorant during those first-day-back-to-work conversations with others who were snowed in and decided to read to keep from having a mush brain. You know how it goes on that first day back to work after being away for a week when everybody and their mama wants to talk to you. Even those co-workers or managers who have never talked to you in the 50 yrs you have been employed there will break their necks to converse with you because they have been isolated from human contact for so long they forget how to be jerks, for that first day atleast.

Enjoy!

Boundless Tip of the Week

Combine one teaspoon of Olive Oil with one teaspoon of sugar in the palm of your hand. Begin by scrubbing gently, the sugar and oil combination together over the backs and palms of both hands. Repeat this process for approximately 5-10 minutes and then dip hands in a pale of semi-warm water, ensuring all ingredients are removed. Gently dry both hands on a soft cloth and enjoy the feeling of your renewed hands!!!

LOVE- The Antithesis of Valentine's Day

As I prepare myself mentally to endure the hype of yet another consumer driven holiday (Valentine's Day) I can't help but find myself, talking to myself, while standing in line at any grocery or retail store prior to a purchase. Does anyone else do this while shopping? Some of the conversations go like this: "Wow look at that big bag of Dove Dark Chocolates. Now you know you just got out the gym, don't even look over there." "But dark chocolate is better for you than any other kind of chocolate." "OMG those M&M's that are all different shades of pink are a great idea to put in a bowl on the coffee table for decoration..." "I can stand to get one bag, it's not like I buy it any other time of the year." By the time my purchases are all scanned and totaled I will have gone through 15 different conversations by myself, made three or four different life decisions on why I need to spend $4 on a bag of M&M's as opposed to the pancake mix already lying in my cart and all the while not thinking twice about just leaving the candy sitting right on the shelf, in the front of the store, with all the Valentine decorations around it making it more tempting than ever on this particular day.

Yes, I am fully aware of my weakness-being that I am a very visual person my philosophy at times is, "if I see it I have to have it," and Yes, I am guilty for caving into the trap that so many of us "typical American consumers" believe that just because it's Valentine's Day that means we have to spend more money; so I am not going to come down hard on any of you out there who may have had similar experiences with a not-so-successful ending. It is my hope and also my prayer that anyone reading this will be inspired to reflect on the true meaning of what this day is supposed to symbolize and that is LOVE. When I think about the true meaning of Love and all of the emotions and feelings that this word brings about, it's almost like four letters is not enough to really address such a BIG experience.

1 Corinthians 13 clarifies the term for me: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Be inspired, Be encouraged and if you don't have a mate right now--there is always Hope!

With Love On My Mind,

Monika
